Artist Residency Taring Padi

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

2013

This body of work was done in collaboration with a printmaking collective called Taring Padi in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The large print is 3'x7' carved out of a woodblock. We speant a month exploring the city and making work with the collective ending in an exhibition showing all of the work from the residency.

While in Yogyakarta, as a group of artists our conversations continually centered around the environment. We constantly were talking about the benefits and drawbacks of technology, of industrializations, of protecting the environment. In the end we decided to represent this quandary with a print that would illustrate both sides of every argument. This print would be able to be displayed either direction depending on what the viewer needed to focus on.
