BIO
Lindsey Fox grew up in Northern Michigan, a place that nurtured her love of the natural world and the land that creates it. After attending Interlochen Academy of the Arts she continued her education at The University of Michigan where she obtained her BFA. Rather than a particular medium, her work centers around the art and act of pattern making. Whether it be painting, sculpture, textiles, or drawing, her work continued to draw inspiration from nature and the pat- terns she found in the wild. In 2013 Lindsey moved to Portland, Oregon where she continues a studio practice through her home studio, residencies, and exhibitions. Her hiking adventures among the mountains and valleys of the Pacific Northwest continue to inspire her work and fill the pages of her sketchbooks.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Lindsey creates work that celebrates and contributes to the protection of the wild places she loves to explore. She uses pattern to create paintings that balance between abstract and landscape to capture the awe of wild places. Carrying a sketchbook allows her to record these moments, patterns, and landscapes and bring them into the studio to create larger interpretations of the encounters. Working from drawings and sketches, rather than photographs, allows her a more direct transfer of impressions and ideas. In 2016 Lindsey set out to hike The Pacific Crest Trail. Over the course of a five month hiking artist residency, she created over 30 paintings, 40 handmade postcards, and 27 mile markers along the 2650 miles from Mexico to Canada. This adventure has evolved into a more extended studio based project which is reflected in her current body of work.
